Quaestio utrum de necessitate omnia eveniant, an sit aliquid casuale et fortuitum
- Maier believes that this question was part of a commentary on Physics (cf. Maier 1964: 262-3). Lohr also believes this, and reports it as a fragment of some Quaestiones in Physica (Lohr 1967: 392).
- The only useful date about Cambiolus’s work is found in Ms Vat. Ottob. 318, fol. 8r: “Expl. questio determinata per magistrum Cambiolum Bononiensem in Bononia, quam disputavit 1333”. The codex, as Maier notes, mostly contains “Quaestionen, di in den 20er, 30er un 40er Jahren des 14. Jahrhunderts in Bologna disputiert werden” (Maier 1944: 138). As Ermantinger notes, if all the questions contained in the ms. Padova, Biblioteca Antoniana, Manuscripts 380 came from the same commentary on Physics, “then they may have a terminus ante quem considerably earlier than the approximate period of composition – early 1330’s, if Cambiolus Bononiensis is the author – suggested for the single question in the Ottoboni manuscript” (cf. Ermantinger 1970: 71).
- This quaestio has been the focus of attention in the literature because of a reference to a text by Sigerus de Brabantia that initially went unidentified (cf. Maier 1956: 307; 1964: 262-3). Calma has then identified this text as Sigerus de Brabantia’s Questio super VI Metaphysice and edited it (Calma 2011: 213-226).
