Quaestio utrum accidens possit intelligi sine subiecto

Typology

Quaestio

Date

1338 - 1344

  • Venezia, Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, lat. VI. 97 (2594)
    • In the absence of other indications regarding the dating of the work, we limit ourselves to reporting the period of activity of Iacobus de Placentia. Kuksewicz connects the indication contained on fol. 83va (“Questio disputata per magistrum Jacobum de Placentia anno millesimo trecentesimo quadragesimo, et fuit prima etc.”) to the present question, thus dating it to the year 1340 (Kuksewicz 1965: 195), and not to the one that follows in the manuscript, as Pinborg 1975: 60 and Lambertini 1992: 293, note 64 do instead.
    • The question is attributed to Iacobus de Placentia in the title: “Incipit questio de accidente disputata per magistrum Jacobum de Placentia” (fol. 84vb).
    • For a quaestio disputata the absence of a solutio is anomalous (Lambertini 1992: 292).

Questio est, utrum accidens possit intelligi sine subiecto. Et arguitur primo quod non […]

Unde subdit Averroes, quod affert diffinitionem accidentibus, affert eis illud, quod non habent, et cetera.
